Sounds lush - haven't delved into this gen though - no 360 and PS3 yet - I tend to stay a gen behind unless there's a big reason to buy into a platform. (Have a couple of region free 360 shmups so it will be 360 bought first).

How about Sub Terrania on Mega Drive?

Or, even earlier try:

Solar Jetman on NES, Zarathrusta, Roton or Fly Harder on Amiga, Oids on ST.

I did buy a Thrust clone on XBL for 80 MS points, cannot think what it was called, did'nt rate it mind.

I also own the ST version of Thrust on homebrew GBA cart (plus a Nightmare version).

Loved Thrust, sequel was poor on C64 mind.

Sub-Terrania is a good shout actually.

I already said STUN Runner but some of the other 3D Atari Games titles would be nice too like Xybots, Steel Talons and Gauntlet Legends.

I would love to see a remake of "I, Robot" and also a good one of "Star Raiders".
Don't be surprised, my broken English is legendary!

Really great shout!

This would make an amazing online multi-player game, especially if you add in the characters from the Lynx version and the quest type missions from the excellent Mega Drive version. This is exactly the kind of thing that people should be doing with the Atari assets, not making crappy iPhone games and T-Shirts.

Amen brother!  ;)

Gauntlet is a game that has a ton of potential in a modernized version.

I totally missed this post but if you're looking for something like Sub Terrania you should try PixelJunk Shooter. It's a downloadable game on PSN and very similar.

Personally found Gravity Crash on PSN the far better game.

I don't think I've ever tried that one. I'll have to take a look.

Looks gorgeous, superb music, but gets rather difficult, rather quickly.

There was a DS update in the works back in 2008, by Backbone Entertainment (Canada, publisher Eidos), who did Commando+1942 on PSN/XBLA.

It kept the top-down view, frantic battles, just threw in the occ.block puzzle and had more of an exploration element.

New foes included Imps:which made you Dizzy (uneasy feeling, not the egg :-)), Zombies (returned to life until you destroyed specific object).

Enviroments were said to be far more organic than the original

Retro Gamer magazine even reviewed in, in early 2009 i think, which is odd as game has never been released (to best of my knowledge, so were they reviewing preview code or what?). Game engine was used in DS G.I Joe:Rise Of Cobra though.

It was finished (Darran Jones still has his review copy) it's a complete mystery however why it was never released.

That would have been interesting to see.  It's unfortunate they did not release it.

Perhaps you can ask Darran if he knows why it was never released/what the 'word' was from the publisher and in what form the review copy was in and then share it on here? might be decent story.

Or as Darran is a member here, perhaps he'll grace us with a reply.....

Now that's a rare collectible  :13: Some people would spend a ton of money for something like that!!!
