I've never noticed any serious frame problems on the Saturn version tbh, maybe I'm getting confused with the Jaguar version of Doom in relation to the screen area but I thought I could remember the Jag version had a massive box around the screen much like when you zoom out to outside the hover craft in hover strike.... anyway I apologise if I'm remembering that part incorrectly. either way its just the way I remember the game, when I was 16 playing Doom on the Saturn was normal for me, I didn't notice frame rate problems, I didn't notice any slow down at all... playing it last night I could see that its not as fast as it could be but for me it certainly isn't unplayable as thats what I was used to. I can imagine people used to the 64 bit versions having issues but is not bad to the point of "unplayable"

Watch the video's in this thread, its the Saturn version that has a border - the Jag version is full screen.

I might do a comparisson video actually . . . .

I must admit i didn't notice a border, probably wrong though. you get what I'm saying though about the fact that I was used to the Saturn one, I didn't play another version of Doom for YEARS after that and other versions just seemed strange

Ahh DOOM, probably THE most played Jaguar game i had at the time (and 4 of my friends bought Jag's just to play Doom-None of us wanted the cost or hassle of a PC).Bloody superb conversion and personally felt was a better game for not having the (MIDI?) tracks from PC.

Put even more time in on PS version though, even tried link up mode. The music there, really added to the feeling of dread (and who ever came up with the baby wailing track...twisted genius).

Rage did European (and US i assume) Saturn Doom.Straight port of PS version, even the passwords worked.Chap who did conversion was interviewd in Gamestm, years back, he said his bosses basically told him, just port it over best you ca.Jap.version much better and done by different coders.

Never went much on Doom 2 mind-Media loved it, but to me? felt like exp.pack and not full blown sequel i'd hoped for.

32X version, i believe was a rush job, talk of Sega 'camped outside' developers to get game done in time for release, but it did'nt do the hardware any favours. For something with 2X 32 Bit Risc chips to be running game in a window, with weapons and levels missing (if memory serves) it just looked like a lesser version.

Poor old 3DO owners were left waiting and not all good things come to those who wait, the image of shotgun muzzle blast staying on screen after gun firing animation had finished was shocking.

Snes ver.was technically impressive, but used SFX chip gubbins i think, GBA version, based on Jaguar code and thus very smart indeed.
