My favorite example of this is Xenogears, the album Creid specifically.  Yasunori MItsuda is an unbelievable musician, you really should check out all of his game soundtracks played on real instruments at least once (Chrono Trigger also is great).  Xenogears Creid/Melkaba

I'd been meaning to post this, but kept forgetting.  I recommended the Zillion games, which were based on the anime, in the SMS thread.  Well, I think they had the best soundtrack of any SMS game, and in fact the songs were adapted from the anime.  Here are a couple of examples of those songs on real instruments:
