Retro News Round up / Re: SNES Mini Hacked
« on: October 27, 2017, 01:00:35 AM »
I think its a great hack, Ive only added additional snes games but the fact it uses the Nintendo interface and emulation is all good.

Nice to connect to the Elgato and stream the games.

Looks like the real market would of been for gambling. Interesting to see a financial product driving new tech on a console.

please exercise extreme caution when using the Product and make sure there is fire extinguishment equipment nearby.

Lol. Pretty sure they would need to clarify what type of fire extinguisher they would need to use.

A lot of money for an "Anniversary" edition tbh.

I can't understand the pre-orders being this late and seemingly understocked.

Ive got two UK pre-orders from two months ago that have already been paid for, the second one is insurance against not getting the first. Ive already offered it to a mate at cost.

Nintendo know people will re-buy old games multiple times (I'm certainly guilty of this), I don't understand the stock shortages - If the US wants 3m mini Snes's make 3 million mini Snes's.

Retro Chat / Re: What Retro Games Have You Played Recently?
« on: August 18, 2017, 23:22:19 PM »
After tidying my game room/office I've played loads of Colecovision which I loved followed by Master System. New Zealand Story, Rainbow Islands and Ghosts and Ghouls are all great conversions. GNG's difficulty setting is slightly lower than most ports which makes the game more playable in my opinion. Finally got my arcade cabs ready in my extension by putting the on some carpeting. I then went and played Lady Bug, Burger Time and Mr Do on my 60 in 1 jamma board no doubt related to the Colecovision earlier on I the week.

That looks really good. $100 is a pricey solution but still loads cheaper than an official component cable.

The $100 could go towards an decent quality scaler that could benefit every console people own but was really impressed with the results.

Ive got 5 pal Gamecubes and a Japanese Gamecube that runs both Jap/US games. It definitely is tempting.

Good job I haven't got an Everdrive MD, Turbo Everdrive 1.2, 161-1 MVS cart, Super Everdrive and a NES 40-1 - Ohh wait I have.

I do have lots of original carts so I don't exclusively use the Everdrive's.

Also what's the cost to replace a Megadrive/Genesis console, or Snes or NES via the money saved on expensive or unobtainable games? Ive got at least 4 MD's, a couple of NES's, 3 Snes's and even two MVS motherboards.

Interesting read but some consoles biggest issues are with old unstable power supplies, caps that need replacing, damaged edge connectors, faulty carts and previous modifications.

Homebrew Games / Re: Atari 7800 Donkey Kong XM

This looks loads better than the NES version and very close to the original arcade game. Significantly better than the original 7800 version but I guess that port was rushed in 1984.

I didnt remember how awful the EA music was, wow it's like a chorus of male Tom cats singing for their supper. I'd go Tengen purely for that reason. I want to now play it with unlimited lives. This is one game that lots of the conversions are decent too.

Ive just ordered the Atari 400 one. Can't wait to get it.

I follow James on twitter and his mouse mats are fantastic things. The Atari 400 one looks amazing. I definitely need to order one or two.

Ive played the mobile version and was fun but I have very little time for mobile gaming in general due to the lack of real buttons.

The free drive option would of been nice to explore the city. One of my bugbears of re-releasesed Sega games is the lack of the original licensed soundtracks.

Chuckie Egg was platforming perfection on 8 Bits computers, Its definitely a game I come back to regularly. Those ladders were amazing.

Chuckie Egg for me.

BBC Micro is my favourite version.

Machines that have would benefit are machines like the N64. Even on a decent CRT its visuals would be better cleaned up and upscaled onto hdmi. Similar things could be said to the PS1 and Saturn's 3d titles. I just think the price point is a little high and if can't play roms's it makes it a little redundant to the many people who don't have older titles in their collection.
