And on the plus side it means less Atari bias and talk.  Yay!

I really hate those Atari fanbois!  Some of them seem to make new games every other day!

Hmmm I read this thread yesterday.  I've read today's comments..... [edit: and Grey and SnakeEyes stop posting a minute!!  I'm typing and watching the Commonwealth Games programme on the beeb and I can't keep up! Now I have to edit....... ....]

I wasn't going to comment for any reason other than that I don't like farewell threads.  Whether it's an official announcement or a self indulgent, self scripted 'ta tar', I think they're unnecessary.

But I'm here now so first I'll say, au revoir!

Now, what's this about pulling reviews he wrote?  Surely some mistake?  I really don't think Kieren would want this community to be damaged in anyway regardless of differences or whatever the issues may be.  I think he's a better man than that.  Better these are left alone for the benefit of the RVG community.  Ok, so I'm wrong -  I gave him the benefit of the doubt too.  What a selfish act to leave on.

Looking forward, someone will step up to fill his place and as the old formula goes when someone leaves something - you're celebrated if you were any good, then blamed for everything, then forgotten.  C'est la vie.

And on the plus side it means less Atari bias and talk.  Yay!  Can I suggest the job spec includes that any candidate "Must be a Commodore fanboy" and has "Nintendo fan" in the desirable criteria. ;)

Retro Chat / Re: Best Storylines in Games

Some of the Infocom adventures had great stories.  Same with Level 9; Silicon Dreams trilogy was pretty darned cool!

Point n click tended to have decent story driven gameplay....  Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Blade Runner(maybe), Grim Fandango, Monkey Island....

Very tough call to name 10 off the top of my head but here they are.

Elite - Beeb
Tetris - Gameboy
WOTEF - C64
Maniac Mansion - C64
Street Fighter II - SNES
Gunstar Heroes - MD
Streets of Rage 2 - MD
Suspended - C64
Impossible Mission - C64
Shining Force - MD

No doubt I will be forgetting numerous games I'm very fond of and even if I haven't, next week I could give a different 10!

Strontium Dog, a BASIC game, that has something of a Minter quality to it making it very engaging to play.

c64 longplay - Nemesis the Warlock part 1 of 8 (1-5)

Two Wii games....

Lucky Luke on the Wii is pretty good fun if a little shallow

Lucky Luke: Go West!

I have to go for DOOM despite it being an obvious choice.  I thought about Goldeneye but although I played it so much I could breeze through all the levels on 007 difficulty and knew all the levels as well as I know my house I don't have a desire to go back and play it again.  That's not the case with DOOM and DOOM 2.  I still get a kick out of playing these games.

I'm quite happy to see more BSG.  Loved the original TV show as a kid and really enjoyed the reboot.  A shame the writers strike hit the reboot.  Some episodes were significantly substandard and any flow the series hoped to have was lost.

I have the same experience of Caprica as WiggyDiggyPoo and just couldn't bring myself to watch it :(

Writers strike only really affected Part 2 of S4, there was a longer gap between S3+4 than Part 1 of S4 and Part 2.... At that point the anticipation of the finale which (despite the age!) I'll politely not mention in case anyone watches it meant that even that 6 month delay didnt really hit me -  I tended to watch it in 2 or 3 episode blocks anyway rather than weekly.

I think I'll give BSG1978 another go, it has been a while since I tried to watch it....
I watched all the episodes of the reboot on LoveFilm watching 1 or 2 episodes, sometimes an indulgent 3rd, almost every night.  It took well over a month.  That's why I was so aware of the disjointed nature of the story.  Some episodes simply didn't follow on progressively, when they really could and should have.  I found some episodes so jarringly different in tone and direction that it took me a while to settle back into watching without thinking "wtf have they done!"

As for the religious hokem and Starbuck nonsense... meh.

Still, all that said, I still enjoyed it.
