Title: Mini NES
Post by: Shadowrunner on July 14, 2016, 15:03:27 PM

Nintendo has just announced the Mini NES, a plug and play console pre-loaded with 30 games. It's supposed to be out this November with a price of $60. Not sure what the price will be in other regions.

You can read more about it  here  (http://kotaku.com/nintendo-announces-the-mini-nes-will-play-30-classic-g-1783660997?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Twitter&utm_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow) and see the full list of games.

The controller that comes with it will also double as a Wii or Wii U controller for playing Virtual Console games on those systems and you can also use Wii and Wii U Pro controllers on the Mini.

Personally I think $60 for 30 games is a little expensive but I'm sure they will sell a ton of these this Christmas!

I saw this earlier today.  I think that's nifty and it's cool that it's coming directly from Nintendo.  This is their version of the Flashback.  If pricing goes like the Flashback's it is likely they will be much cheaper.  The Flashback's have that same list price but normally sell for about $40-45.

Yes, between Pokemon Go and this Mini NES Nintendo are on a roll! $40-$45 would be a much better price point.

A school mate sent me a pic of this in the morning asking if I'd heard about it yet. I told her no but meant to research it later. And here it is 8)
Looks nice and I could go for the price if the included games stay good. Could be those last minute changes but the lineup at this time looks like all the best of the best.

I would say the pricing is bang on the money. Let's face it guys Nintendo make quality products so your paying slightly more than you would for a Flashback because of the build quality and it's made by the same company. This is a master stroke from Nintendo. They are certainly on a roll.

So many good games on that list; Ghosts'n Goblins, Gradius, Ninja Gaiden, Mario , Zelda, Castlevania....Good grief the list goes on.
For me its worth buying just for Metroid!

This kind of thing has been around for a while but Nintendo looks like it might well nail it with this. Definite purchase for me.

Is there any mention of controllers anywhere. I'm assuming you one with it and would need to buy a second. As long as they're reasonably priced.

This article mentioned that additional controllers are $10:  Nintendo is launching a miniature NES this holiday (https://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-is-launching-a-minature-nes-this-holiday-374910.phtml?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter).

That sounds reasonable.

Just found this too actually https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Entertainment-Electronic/dp/B01IFJEWTM (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Entertainment-Electronic/dp/B01IFJEWTM)
Preorder for Amazon UK, £49.99 (also mentions an included controller)
If an extra controller is ~£10 i'm up for that. <£60 for the setup suits me :^]

Think $60 is a great price, not that dear at all. BUT how much will it be in the UK ? Whats $60 nowadays, is that about £35-40 ?

I bet this will be £60 in the UK though when its out. Be interesting to see the price.

Think its an excellent list of games, not full of shovelware. Very tempted to get this

I'm now wondering it this can be remotely hacked to allow NES ROMs to run from this box, I don't remember seeing any form of SD slot on this machine, i know I sound like a hack pirate type, but I'm thinking in the lines of Homebrew games and the likes, i don't need to play commercial games, I can do that on my Android media box.

Think I'll get one just to support the cause.
Hoping maybe they'll do the same for the SNES, GC & Wii at some point if the sales are high 8)

Holy shit, if they did a SNES one, omg I'd of died and gone to Mario land. I think because this is the massive iconic NES machine, although I believe personally the SNES was the best console they ever created, that would be something else :) fingers crossed, could be a while. Nintendo they sure know how to Mickey tease folk 😆

Yes, it's Nintendo. Here's a quote from the top of the story:
Quote
Nintendo today announced the mini-NES, a new $60 machine that will come pre-installed with 30 classic Nintendo games.
Has to be legit and unencumbered from lawsuits. If the sales go through the roof maybe they'll consider more games for an additional unit next year or move up to other systems. Would be nice to replay some gems on their other systems without fighting for scraps on epay 8)

This is likely to sell very well in the US, so chances are we'll see another one in the future.  :)  The cool thing is that it is coming straight from the source, Nintendo itself.

I don't think I could contain myself if they announced a SNES version. Based on the level of games they've included in this Mini NES can you imagine the SNES one, I mean can you really! I'd probably shit myself and cry real tears of happiness.

Although what shape would it take? The smooth lines of the Euro/Famicom or the chiselled wedge of the USA machine.

I suspect it will be made to appeal to the bigger market, so the USA version.

Ha, no that's a Jaguar only rule in my house. Wouldn't mind having a couple of unopened spares for 30 years from now but will probably get the one by itself. My girlfriend knows I'm excited about this so she'll probably buy me one as a surprise. So, that'll be two lol.

When I first saw this on my twitter timeline I thought someone had created some fan art then I realised that it was from Nintendo. I think its a great price point, it will introduce lots of kids to Nintendo gaming, it will have Nintendo's build quality and the list of games both 1st party and licensed were decent.

I will get one for sure, even though Ive got an original NES and two clones of the system. Ive heard great things about Startropics, and Ive never player either of the original Zelda's.

The naming of this system is interesting -
Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System

I for one would like to see a Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System but a Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo 64 would be awesome due to how poor the original systems look on else apart from a CRT. Imagine how Mario64, Banjo and Zelda would look on a clean HDMI signal.

Sounds like he's got a vendetta against AT Games (at Games, or whatever they're called lol) for his purchase from two Christmases ago :D
Might be some alertness needed when buying but for it not to be out yet, sounds like his mind is already made up.

Who knows, maybe the company is re-releasing a similar but better product based on the complaints from the previous one? No telling. I'd just wait for consumer reviews on the new machine before making a decision. Don't plan to buy one personally, though. Have so much Sega Genesis products, they're taking over my collection as a whole :P (how did I get all this sh*t anyway?)

Right, the games aren't expensive in the wild except for DK and DK jr. I'm just glad I don't collect for the system. Be another wallet draining fiasco.... that I'd probably love (http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx267/Saturn025/wub.gif)

Can't wait for it. Will be nice to have this little console around. :D

I know the Nes Mini is having a new emulator made for it (http://wiiudaily.com/2016/08/the-upcoming-nes-mini-console-has-a-brand-new-emulator-for-its-nes-games/). Knowing Nintendo it will be well made and well locked down. Id definitely love a Mini N64 with beautiful HDMI graphics, with a Mini Snes not too far behind.

When "Gamers" complain that prices may come down because of digital/repros I just think about the other gamers that don't have access to the item in the first place due to cost, plus the price drop is normally short term like the Metroid Prime Trilogy release on the WiiU

I played one of these this weekend at FreePlay Florida 2016. A Nintendo representative had it on display. Quite nice I thought. If I didn't have a NES collection already this would be something I would pick up. The controller essentially feels the same, although the black label on the face of the controller is not set as deep into the control panel mold so that is a slight difference in feel. The controller weight is good though and buttons are nice. Great job on the console. It really makes for a fun playing experience - even on an LCD monitor.

Yes, I've heard the comments such as "we need a wireless controller" and "the controller wire is to short", however the NES was largely played by kids laying on the floor in front of the TV, and this brings it back. The original cord length could have been replicated. I am happy as is though.

This was at the show also and it was hooked up often to the big projector. A great game I was previously unaware of that was a Famicon only release, Mr. Gimmick, was playing and also Castlevania for speed runs. It's a pretty great system with lots of features built in. I also played Super Mario 2 Japanese version on a Famicom that also had the Famicon Disk System.

A photo of Super Mario Bros. 2 and Famicom disk system.

Also played the SD multi carts for SNES and N64. They were loaded with disk drive games and many versions of SNES games had redone CD quality remixed music by an orchestra (Metroid, Zelda, etc). F-Zero disk drive version that used the extra N64 RAM and high frame rate was fun to play too.

I learn so much from collectors at these events.

The NES Classic is actually a smash retail hit, which is somewhat surprising. There was a lot of interest generated among longtime players and this is possibly the most success Nintendo has had with a home console (not handheld) release since the original Wii. Now, they're unveiling the Nintendo Switch, and let's hope that Nintendo continues their commitment to classic gaming by expanding their catalog of downloadable retro titles for the next generation of consoles.

Title: Re: Mini NES

Yeah, this whole fiasco sounds very odd to me. I was interested back in the early days but the handling of this has left too much to wonder about so they can keep mine... if I was ever destined to get my hands on one, that is. Sounds like the people who run Wal mart (Wal Mark in the south) are in charge of this. If it sells, don't stock it. If it doesn't, use as much space on the shelves as possible. That theory would fit except there's no alternative product to scoff at in its place. Talk about dropping the ball.

The handling of it is awful, Zap.  There are lots of people who want these and can't get them.  You'll hear jabs about it on many videos from people on YouTube when they post videos.  Even on the video I posted last night about the Atari 2600 Mini you'll hear it.
