I don't update mine. Too many steps, too often for me to keep up with. Plus, lose a ton in shipping over a year's time. I hit the big ones on hundreds and fifties. Buy the 2TB (iirc) WD xHD and fill it with all that'll fit. I like the emails though. Reminds me to check the site for any new sets that may have been added. Although that part hasn't changed for years. At least he's able to use Paypal again. The year or two he got banned sucked.

It's about time to update for me. Not moving along as fast as I'd expect but definitely worth the cost 8)
Anyone know a good front end to use with these new versions? I like the simplicity and command line gets old.

Hello,

A new version of MAME is out with a small update, including a few new CHDs, for the arcade games.

The biggest news I have is that the U.S. Postal Service has raised its rates. People outside the U.S., in particular, will see a substantial rise in the their shipping cost. I think the rate hike is ridiculously large but it's out of my control, sorry.

I wish I had better luck with games using CHDs. Even my most powerful BEAST of a pc won't push them without lag. Ah well, someday.. :113:

MAME .172 Released

Hello,

A new version of MAME is out with a small update, including one new CHD, for the arcade games.

I have added the older MAME .139 and .78 sets by popular demand. Also, The MAME Extras collection has been expanded and updated. It's now large enough to be made into it's own separate set. As such, the Extras are no longer include in the MAME DVD set.

Lastly, I've been considering making available a console-based retrogaming system based around the Raspberry Pi computer. I have a survey page available to outline some options I'm considering. If you'd like to take part in the survey, it's here:

Got this earlier. Has a couple of massive Laserdisc CHDs 8):

MAME .175 Released
.
Hello,

A new version of MAME is out with an update, including 2 new Laserdisc CHD files, for the arcade games.

The new Laserdiscs are for the games "Esh's Aurunmilla" and "Road Blaster". Like all Laserdisc files, these are extremely large. In order to fit them onto DVD for the updates, they're are broken up into multi-part self-extracting .exe files. To extract the Laserdisc CHDs, all you need to do is copy all files from the update DVDs onto your computer, then navigate to the subfolders called "esh" and "rblaster" in your MAME "roms" folder. Just click on the .exe file in each of these subfolders and the CHD will extract itself.

Looks to have some great new features this time around. I've got 0.175 on my rig and it has mostly everything I'd ever want, and only update it every three to four releases, so it will probably be 0.179 before I rank up.

Who is this Lazarus guy? Is he allowed do this?
Title: Re: MAME Releases
Post by: Saturn on September 04, 2016, 15:36:02 PM
He's some guy I found out there way back that burns the sets. I don't know his history but found him to be reliable for updates and I get an email when a new version of MAME comes out. That's about the only way I can stay on top of it.
I know his Paypal account was gone for a while, assuming bc of this and a complaint by someone but looks to be back recently. I haven't ordered from him in about 5-10 years but he got it done back then.
Idk about legal. Seems a person is paying for the burning service, not the roms, blah blah. May be one of those gray lines so I just stay in my boat over here in international waters to avoid upsetting any one nation :D All of my assumptions above are exactly that, though. I have no idea of facts in any way so I don't dare to comment 'officially' in any capacity.

lol..No your safe , I was just asking about it..he should though put up such a disclaimer that you are only buying the discs and Flash sticks from him and not the content, as he could have problems I'd suspect.

I nab the sets either via a file host or NZB's (Newsgroups) but haven't done that for a while now. In some cases it really is better if you wait for gapped releases, because there is nothing worse in downloading 100+gbs only to find that a new version is around the corner and your Dats have to be all redone again and update just for the sake of about 10 or less new games nobody really cares about..:)
Title: Re: MAME Releases
Post by: Saturn on September 04, 2016, 17:35:56 PM
Well, I was only getting new sets on the 25s or 50s but it takes so long in between I forget anyway.
Last set I got I found out everything was different. No updated mame32ui.exe for the front end I was used to and the older one was not compatible with some of it. Command line only stuff that I had to relearn.
While it's understandable, I like the gui and ease of checking roms for errors/missing.
I'll stick with my .77 release. More than ever I'll play anyway 8)
