Title: What's Your Favourite Sega Franchise
Post by: TL on March 27, 2012, 17:50:28 PM
So which one is you favourite?

No argument that they are all classics but which one has the most appeal to you and why?

I would say Streets of Rage, many hours were spent playing those games.

Yeah as much as I wanted to say Outrun I just couldn't look past the SOR games

Despite some absolute garbage for modern consoles, I still had to go with Sonic. The 16-bit Sonic games are still amazing.

This was a real hard one, but i went for Sonic in the end just ahead of SOR. Purely based on the fact there has been a lot more Sonic games made and although there has been some dodgy games here and there the majority have been good especially Sonic 1,2,3,Adventure 1&2 and Generations. The fact that Sega have never actually made another SOR game amazes me, especially with the current rise of retro style games on IOS, Android and XBLA.

I loved the Streets of Rage games but i had to go for Shinobi due to the sheer amount of time I spent on Shinobi in the arcade and revenge of Shinobi  on the Megadrive.

Toe Jam and Earl.  Probably the first game that introduced me to buckets of humour.  Loveable characters, crazy animation and some funky music.  8)

I love the original one, I always wished they had done more games like the first one. A Saturn version whould have been amazing.

That's why I didn't consider it because there are only 2 games  ;D

I had to go with other to be fair, in no particular order my favourites are

Phantasy Star (online AND the original RPGs)
Shenmue
JSR
Panzer Dragoon Series

I couldn't decide on my favourite but I'd have to say that Shenmue 2 and Panzer Dragoon SAGA are tied for my favourite game of all time vote I think lol

I added a few more choices as I seemed to have forgotten a few big ones  :-[

I activated it so you can change your vote too.

Interesting to see Sega resurecting many of these games once again for HD

And with good results too, I really like these classic games in HD.  Just downloaded Guardian Heroes last night, awesome game.

For me, it would have to be Sonic. Sure, they've done a lot of other great franchises. But I've been playing Sonic games since they started porting them to the PC. I've been a major fan since then, even during Sonic's... er, less than shining moments. Generations and Colors were fantastic, though.

Second place goes to Streets Of Rage, and Ristar's somewhere in there, too. Although he's not a franchise.

My favorites are Shinobi, Columns, Outrun and the Golden Axe series. I voted Shinobi.

To any of you who were wanting a new Shenmue: Have you tried looking into the Yakuza series? I mean, I know it's a not a direct continuation, but it has a lot of the same gameplay, and some really good combat. The first two games have been released on the PS2, and from what I hear, the second one is generally the best place to start.

It's in Japanese, but there is an English version, although only the first game has English voice acting.

Somebody was saying to me last night that this is pretty much a spin-off of Shenmue and was programmed by the same team of people.

Yakuza sounds good but it won't satisfy fans who want to see the story concluded. I would be happy if they just did episodic parts over XBLA and made them with slightly older tech, I'm still happy playing the games on just the DC, they still look incredible and have stood up well

So many... I voted Shinobi though. Especially Revenge of Shinobi has a special place in my heart.

I also love Sonic, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star and Wonder Boy though, and Alex Kidd had two very nice games.

Things like Space Harrier or Outrun I respect today, but I have no fond memories of them as I am German, and kids are not allowed in arcades here, so all the games that live from the arcade magic kind of lose that advantage in these parts. Golden Axe is another game many love, but I find the controls too sluggish.

I originally voted for Streets of Rage but I'd be tempted to change my vote to Shinobi having now spent more time playing those games.

I had to vote Sonic. Alex Kid in Miracle World has a place in my gamers heart, and Golden Axe games were excellent too. But Sonic gets the vote from me.

I couldn't vote Sonic. Sonic games are a mish mash of quality and the franchise has suffered some real lowpoints.
Throughout the 80's and 90's though, Sega put out some mentally good software.

Sonic seems to be running away with this now  :10:
