Title: Things that should have been games!
Post by: TL on March 05, 2014, 19:44:04 PM
So what things are there that really should have been games?

Be it movies, TV shows, toys, food . . . anything!

This is my first vote, how a game was never about this amazing TV show is simply baffling!

Was the Genesis Stargate so bad they did not make an SG-1 update?

It's not that bad, but it's very hard. The SNES version is a bit easier. I think there's a difference in the way the lives/continues works. I forget now.

As for the topic:

I was wondering recently why there wasn't a Cool Runnings game.

I never would have thought of that ever! But it's certainly an interesting idea!  :16:

There definitely should have been a video game based on The Raccoons cartoon.

Hmm, how about Thundercats?† I know there was an Elite release for the Amstrad CPC, Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum but I don't believe there were any retro console releases.† There were some modern releases based on the new cartoon, though.

I was actually going to say this myself, while the computer game was pretty good I am really shocked that there was never a console game.

I am also pretty shocked that there were not more Transformers games too, I only know of the poor Spectrum/Commodore 64 game by Ocean.

Yeah, I can't remember seeing any console Transformers games.  There are plenty modern ones but not in retro land.

Here is another classic 80's TV series that was never done justice, it only got an incredibly shit Spectrum game.

Here's another one that did not have a retro game:† Voltron: Defender of the Universe!† It does have some modern games (for XBox 360 and PS3) but both are awful, I've read.

Nah, man, the 90's has them beat in every way. Trust me, I could write an essay on this if I could be bothered right now, but basically, 90's win, always.

On topic! I had a hard time coming up with something for this thread, but I think I've finally thought of something... Warner Brother's Freakazoid.

FREAKAZOID intro (http://http)

Best of Freakazoid part 1 (http://http)

Honestly, though, I'm really not sure just what you could make from this. I'm imagining something like Earthworm Jim, where every level is basically its own different kind of game, maybe with some beat-em-up sections here and there. You'd have to have a lot of disk space to get down the kind of humor the show does, too, so something 32-bit and up.

They really should have made some Van Damme video games, these 2 would be excellent candidates.

Well, not really. There was a Mega Drive game that was just an altered Turrican II. I actually quite liked it though as you get level passwords, unlike Turrican II.

I think so. A lot of people don't though.

I liked it, but it was still just a re-skinned Turrican game.

Something like Mercs or Contra would have been a lot more fitting I think!

Ok, having thought of several things only to find that games have been made, I went back to my childhood when I used to go to the cinema on a Saturday morning and watch this guy -

That's right, Captain Marvel!

Shazam!!! The original "Adventures of Captain Marvel" was created in 1941 and no, I am not that old lol but he was my hero and more popular than Superman. Would make a great game me thinks

Psst, look out for the film soon ;)

Captain Marvel (by his original name back then) was more of a hit than Superman at a certain point in time.  A game based on the character would have been cool.

Indeed, if memory serves, he was kind of an early detective, suspicious of what was happening down town and would only put the two halves of his rings together when the situation required a super-hero. Have I recalled that right about the ring/rings? I know he then said the famous "Shazam" catch phrase in order to transform. Any how, the point is, it could be the subject of a game on modern systems ;)

No rings are involved.  Billy just has to call on the the power by saying the word "Shazam!"  :)  You can check the history of the character here:  Captain Marvel (DC Comics) (http://http).

Good job I got this bit right: "Based on sales, Captain Marvel was the most popular superhero of the 1940s. His Captain Marvel Adventures comic book series sold more copies than Superman and other competing books of the time. Captain Marvel was also the first comic book superhero to be adapted into film...". Still, enough of that, we agree he could be the subject of a game ;)

Captain Power was a late 80's show and it had two robotic characters that were made using CGI (in the early days).  It involved a lot of shooting, so it would have been a good console video game.  You can read about the show here:  Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future (http://http).  Here is the intro to the show...
