Title: What's your favourite digging game?

Digging games were all the rage for a while with titles like Dig Dug and Mr. Do! lighting up arcades everywhere while games like Oil's Well and Boulderdash had a big part in the boom of home computers. But what game is your favourite?

Tough choice, but I went with Mr. Driller... specifically Mr. Driller Drill Land on the Gamecube.

Mr. Do series would be my second favorite.

I say Boulderdash. Not the topic the game. :21:

It's very hard to choose here but I'm going with Mr. Do!  I've always like that clown and, as much as I like Dig Dug, I like Mr. Do! even more.  :)

I spent a lot of time playing Digger T rock on the NES.

I logged too many hours on Sega's Thunderground for VCS to consider anything else. Lots of good ones out there, and Dig Dug and Boulderdash are goodies, but Thunderground reigns supreme to me.

Interesting game.  It does appear to combine elements from more than one type of game, HERO being one of them.

That does look like a nice Mr. Do! clone.

Yeah, it's a PC game. One of the first games I ever played.

That dooes look like a pretty nifty clone.  Interesting how they handled the "digging."

I have to agree with you about Dig Dug 2.  It's just not as good as the original.  I've only played it on my PSP, though, so I don't know if that'd make much of a difference regarding my opinion of it.

Mr Do and Boulderdash are two of my favourites, but for sheer addictiveness it's Mr Driller for me. Such a simple idea - it is pure genius really and I believe it is underrated.

Digger came out on PS3 a wee shortly back. Clearly a Mr Do ripoff. (I used to love Mr Do).

One of the other favorites of mine - I only ever saw it in one arcade in my yoot. It did come out on the BBC Micro too (called monsters)

Space Panic is the original ladders and levels game. Loderunner is its spiritual sequel - but you could argue all platform games are sequels too.

Looks like we have a three way tie here! New members, or anyone who didn't vote already, get your votes in. We need a winner  :113:

No, no, no.  What you needed to say was that anyone who hasn't voted yet needs to dig in and get their voting done.  ;)

I love Mr. Drillers color pallet. But Dig Dug holds a place in my heart.

Dig Dug was my choice too, love it!

Love Dig Dug or Mr. Driller. Hated Dig Dug 2, just didn't enjoy the top-down view..

I voted Boulderdash as there's just more to it that your average arcade "digger".
If I had to pick another then it would be Mr Do! as it's way better than Dig Dug (which I like)!

DIG DUG! Spent many hours playing the 7800 version when I was a kid.

Drill Dozer on the GBA is pretty good too.

I've had to choose the "Other" option because one of e best unsung digger game imaginable has been completely ignored :(, it was an amazing classic which featured on the 8-bit computer range back 1983. Any ideas? This classic digger game appeared on the Atari 8-bit range and the Commodore 64 and had a great take on the boulder dash / dig dug bit involved water being the killer that contain baddies adding to the tension.

The game was of the infamous "O'Riley's Mine"

I've never heard of O'Riley's Mine before, but it does look like a great digging game :)

My favourite digging game is Mr. Do

Of those listed, it'd have to be Mr Driller even though I was pretty late to that series.

Retro-wise, it'd be Diggers, which I played loads of on the Acorn Archimedes. I spent about 30 hours just playing the demo!

More recently, Miner Dig Deep on XBLA was excellent. Much like Diggers but with direct rather than Lemmings-like control. One of very few XBLA games I've bought, actually.

Most recently, Steamworld Dig for the 3DS. Again, it's similar to Miner Dig Deep but with a lovely steampunk style and some Metroidvania aspects.

Steamworld Dig is a great game! I really had a lot of fun playing it :)

Well, I voted Mr Do! as that was a great arcade game which I loved to play. I also loved Boulderdash on my 800 XL and a few other digging games but I was never a fan of Dig Dug.
