Title: Games Master Gore Special!
Post by: TL on October 20, 2012, 17:56:15 PM
With Halloween coming up what is better to watch than the classic Games Master gore special?

This is the extended VCD release of the show, with lots more clips from games like Kasumi Ninja, Doom, Mortal Kombat 2, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Phantasmagoria, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, Primal Rage, BloodStorm and others.

It's definitely a timestamp of the dodgy era of gaming when gore and tits were a popular way of selling crap games. The VCD is clearly capitalizing on the appeal of this too, so it's quite shallow to hear Dominic rip the piss out of actually-good games like Splatterhouse 2 to show how 'with it' Gamesmaster is (or was). Not the show's best moment, but still worth watching to remind us all how fucked up parts of the late nineties were.

It's funny, gore and gibs and such are a thing you never see in today's games. Sure, you have all your Call of Duty games and such talking about how hardcore and edgy, but the most violence you'll probably get out of any of them is a little puff of blood and a ragdoll. Sad.

There are a few exceptions, thankfully, like the Splatterhouse reboot, where Rick could end up losing body parts. There's also the new Mortal Kombat, which has probably the goriest fatality in the entire series. (http://http) (It's also a much better game than Street Fighter 4, for reasons which I can promise you have nothing to do with the previous video.)

I remember wanting Kasumi Ninja for the Jaguar so much after seeing this show. This is also interesting as they are playing a prototype version that has several clear differences to the production release!  :o

I remember staying up past 12:30 to watch this when they first aired it on Channel 4. It was mind-blowing at the time, but there was definitely a considerable helping of tosh on display!

I loved Gamesmaster back in the day, there has been a few that have copied the formula but they never got the same atmosphere as the original
